Request: Change background color for range of data?

It would be nice to specify ranges on the x-axis that should be a different color. For example, I'd like to "grey out" weekend days when graphing a time series.

By the way, thank you everyone who has resurrected this project over the last few months!

I think this would be great, too, @nrlakin. PRs would be gladly accepted. For now, labelling, and hoping others can help out.

We're working on making this come back. More work to do. :)
