Hi!

The video linked from the readme — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e8TGBvNroI&t=9196s — has apparently gone private. any chance it could be made public or replaced?

Thanks and best, Sebastian

Hello,

This was my bachelors project and link was a recording of me defending thesis. The original was taken down by university. It's my private copy, but it's in Lithuanian so not sure how useful is it to most of the people https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFA1wP4Mdx8

If you want to see a quick demo – https://photos.app.goo.gl/P7LsHXsSsdiCvSc79 or https://photos.app.goo.gl/stHDEoH35hRw8CPJA.

Appreciate the interest in the project!

Are you working on a similar project?

Very nice! Cool to see the software side of it on macOS even without understanding the language. I think the visualization is beautiful and feels like it has it's own character in some sense. It has peace to it, it feels friendly or like a friend.

Appreciate the interest in the project!

Are you working on a similar project?

My interest in music visualization was sparked around 20 years ago when I was still on Windows (now only Linux) with Winamp and a visualization plugin called Geiss and then AVS a bit later (..). More recently got involved with Libvisual upstream where with some luck we'll soon have a first release 0.4.2 that works on macOS too and with a standalone tool "lv-tool-0.4" and multiple plugins (..). Regarding similar but without my involvement, the two projects that light-square most reminds me of are https://github.com/kojigardiner/audiobox and https://github.com/dreamlayers/synaesthesia . I could go in more detail if interesting, but let's maybe do that via e-mail rather than up here.

How specific to macOS is the code in there? Does it make sense for me to try and build light-square on Linux by adding a small CMake build system?

Honestly not sure about compatibility with the Linux. The https://openframeworks.cc/ that this is based on its cross platform framework so it should be buildable for Linux as well. The hobbyist libraries that I've used are also might be compatible.

The repo is also missing the libraries and the Openframeworks setup... I could have done a better job at it 😄

Fadecandy LED controller that I've used for the project is discontinued.

Yeah, in my mind this version of the project is dead. Not worth it to spend any more effort on it.

I've moved on playing around with a way lighter version for a Teensy 4 microcontroller. Still struggling a bit since I am not that familiar with C++. I am primary Android app developer working with Kotlin and this project is more of an excuse to explore other technologies.

The audiobox project looks really cool and I'll look into synaesthesia. I am at the moment really interested how other people are writing their visualisation what audio analysis parameters are used and how they are converted into visuals.

What's this libvisual? It's like a cross-platform visualisations framework?

@simonassank openframeworks, I see! Only Arch Linux AUR ad macOS Homebrew seem to have it packaged according to https://repology.org/project/openframeworks/versions so I'm reading that as "yes, it's cross-platform" and "no, it's not very widely available".

Thanks for your mail contact, I'll get back to you through e-mail soon 👍
