Linux/Wine/Proton support?

I like playing sims 3 on Linux and steam deck, I tested this mod but I can't get it working, unfortunately. Here is the error code I receive when using dxwrapper ASI Loader:

Unable to load 'Sims3SettingsSetter.asi'. Error: 1114

Not sure if the error is at my end or if there is no compatibility with Linux. LD Patch has always worked fine for me on Linux. With using WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wininet=n,b" %command% in the steam launch options.

I have also tried it with the Ultimate ASI Loader, it did not work either.

Tried it on windows 10 with the same mod configuration, and s3ss works fine.

I've also tested S3SS on Linux and I have some information that might be helpful.

Do you bypass a launcher by renaming TS3W.exe to Sims3Launcher.exe? If yes, this can be a reason - from what I see, you have to open the launcher first and then you have option in-game with this mod - it is not working directly on game executable. To be honest, it would be very nice if in some update the mod worked without the launcher because it is really broken on Linux.

Also, I noticed that one option (I believe Mimaloc) is not working properly on Linux - after enabling it and restarting the game, the launcher crashes almost immediately, you cannot click a "Play" button. Who knows, maybe it is working in-game but you cannot enter the game lmao

Check if you bypass the launcher and let us know if it works correctly with it. :-)

Yeah, that was it, I was bypassing the launcher. Thanks. Only now I'm stuck with this rotten launcher once again, haha. I'm messing around with creating an executable that just plain launches TS3W.exe, and name it Sims3Launcher.exe. Haven't got it to work yet though.

I'm going to test s3ss soon and let you know how it goes.

I also have a problem and I'm not bypassing the launcher. I'm using Bottles on Fedora with kernel 6.18 and put wininet.dll in my Game/Bin and the game loads fine but the mod interface doesn't work and there's no log in Documents. I'm using the EA App 1.69 version(unfortunately).

Penguin7105, have you made a DLL override for wininet.dll in Bottles?

You have to open your Bottle manager, go to Tools/Legacy Wine Tools/Configuration.

You should have a Wine configuration window now.
Go to Libraries and in 'New override for library:' put: wininet.dll
Click 'Add' button and make sure that wininet.dll is marked as 'native, builtin'.
Click 'Apply' and that's it.

Without DLL override, wininet.dll does not work on Steam version either.

I have zero issues running it with GE-Proton 10-27 through Lutris, everything works, even the Insert menu and the game has never been this stable and fast, I've enabled all recommended settings of this mod and launch the game using TS3W.exe, so bypassing the launcher.

Running on Pop_OS 22.04.

Hmmmmm I use the steam version of sims 3 without Lutris. Maybe that's the difference.

I've noticed some issues with having shader cache in steam settings enabled with this mod, just FYI, if someone else is having issues.

Sadly not working for me, even after pressing Insert:
Using Steam version 1.67,
Sims3SettingsSetter.asi and wininet.dll (ASI icon) added to Bin, and Libraries in winecfg with Protontricks. (This works fine with Smooth Patch)
No error logs in the game files.
Using Sims3Launcher as normal, no replacements.
No S3SS folder in the save data.

Can confirm that with Smooth Patch 2.1, the mod does indeed work and using the Debug = 1 option in TS3Patch.txt, I get a pop with patching game. No such option to test if S3SS works on startup though it seems?

I’ve just tried dxwrapper, I get a dxwrapper-TS3W.log file, with the same error message as @Sidilium.

Did you check if you have shader cache enabled? Try it without if it's enabled. That was my main issue. The custom executable is just a thing I made, but it's not really relevant to the solution, I think.

Ohhhh.... I have no idea. The executable I made is just a simple C# script that launches TS3W.exe. I could share it, maybe it is a solution. You could also make it yourself with Claude AI and Visual Studio, but it takes a while to install all that.

I don't know if it will help you at all, but you could try it if you want.

Ok, it looks like it’s working all of a sudden, not sure why, I pressed Insert multiple times but it was not working, until now.

If using dxwrapper:
dxwrapper.ini in Bin folder.
dxwrapper.dll in Bin folder.
d3d9.dll in Bin folder.
Sims3SettingsSetter.asi in Bin folder.
TS3W.exe has the d3d9.dll (stub from dxwrapper) set as a native, built in override.

If using wininet:
wininet.dll in Bin folder. (Smooth Patch DLL should work fine too)
Sims3SettingsSetter.asi in Bin folder.
TS3W.exe has the wininet.dll set as a native, built in override.

I originally thought this might have been related to my save file being very large, (Store content officially purchased and installed, Mods (simler90’s fixes for instance), and CC), but I just got it working, I’m not sure why the plugin was failing to load at first.
