The instructions state:

Science Short Range Scanner Controls
The Mouse Scroll Wheel or the RANGE slider control at the top of the screen controls the range (distance) of the short range scanner.
The Left and Right Arrow keys or the A and D keys control the direction the scanning beam is pointed. The boundaries of the scanning beam is indicated by two flickering lines on the display.
The Up and Down Arrow keys or the W and S keys control the scanning beam width. The wider the beam is the more volume it covers, but the

The arrow keys work but w,s,a,d change screens.

Not too nit picky, it's fine. Documentation here is probably out of date. WASD used to work as the arrow keys on SCIENCE, I think, but disabled that at some point because W = waypoints, S = shortrange scanner, D = details, T = tractor beam, M = mining bot.

The web page might not be the best source of info, the 'F1' key is 'help' on all the screens.
