I have a passion for technology and how we use it. I've always been curious about computers and what makes them tick. I started using a computer when I was 4, and I taught myself to program in the 4th grade. I went on to study Computer Science at McGill University in Montreal, QC and completed my Masters there with a project on MMORPGs. I have also received a graduate certificate from the University of Washington in Human-centered Design, and a certificate in Game Design.
This drive for learning and bettering myself has made me passionate about ensuring others are given the opportunity to learn about Computer Science, how it can make a difference to everyone, and have fun while doing it!
In 2011, I started volunteering my time in a High School classroom as part of TEALS. It was then that I created Space Battle Arena with Brett Wortzman as a final project for AP CS. We've presented about the success we had in the class multiple times, most recently at the Computer Science Teacher's Association conference in 2016, see video here.
In 2015, Space Battle Arena was open sourced. It has been used by over two dozen schools across the US, but mostly in the Puget Sound area of Washington state. Since 2017, we've been coordinating tournaments across these schools for their students to compete against others from outside of their classroom.
Help support me and further Computer Science education in the classroom by making it fun, engaging, and exciting!
