Notification on git commit/push error when saving content?

Using git to manage content seems quite nice, but it seems like a big hole in the plan is if a git commit fails. Is there any way to be notified if a commit fails when users are editing content in production? The user screen seems to always show a successful save message, even if the commit+push doesn't work for whatever reason.
