dancing icon when Claude is thinking (or Jazzercising, Manifesting, Flibbertigibbeting etc.)

When I have Claude open in a buffer in Vterm, when this icon is loading, it dances and displaces the input field at the bottom.

This is just 1 of the serveral UI problems that I've come across when using claude in Vterm... There is also:

• each character typed in the input field making the entire buffer flicker back to the beginning (normally when typing @ and adding context)

• misaligned box drawing

and a couple more....

I'm just wondering if there is anything that I can do to make the formatting nicer, and not glitchy or just make the package play nice with vterm. I'm even open to using another terminal (eat etc.)

The dancing icon and bar alignment issues are font issues. See Font setup in the README. Basically, the font you are using doesn't have all the characters that Claude Code uses (it uses some esoteric characters), so Emacs falls back to using a different font for certain characters. When that happens, things don't always line up, causing dancing or alignment issues. (Regular terminals manage this better than Emacs). Switching to eat likely won't help. You could start by using the JuliaMono font, but see the README for other options.

(I'm working on a solution that doesn't involve terminal emulation at all, but that will take a while.)

If that helps, this workaround also helped me anthropics/claude-code#247 (comment) - it has the advantage of being font-agnostic

Thanks - that workaround is helpful, and is similar to these workarounds.

The downside is that if Claude Code adds a new jazzercising character in a new release it may break, but maybe they've settled on their jazzercise rythmn and won't be adding new characters for a while. ;)
