I added a --raw option in the first draft of #45 primarily as a mechanism to expose before, after and cursor to users. I backed it out by request (#45 (review)), but it would still be a good idea to figure out how to expose this to users so they don't get in the habit of using keys as cursors (though this works as a workaround for now).
