Railway platforms and StreetComplete

Hello, I've been editing OSM and recently found out many edits made using StreetComplete where railway platforms have become messy.

Background: Railway platforms can be modelled as a multipolygon with outer platform_edge parts representing the edges paraller to tracks (i.e. for a simple island platform we could have a platform_edge with ref=1, and a second one with ref=2). Problem: Ways tagged as railway=platform_edge have been incorrectly turned into platforms by adding public_transport=platform and some amenity tags have been added as well while they should all go to the multipolygon representing the platform itself. I'm currently doing a cleanup at the scale of whole of Finland. I'm unfamiliar with StreetComplete so I wanted to ask whether this is an issue with the application itself or users not knowing what they do?

I am not aware of how SC could do this.

Once it is done SC will ask questions about them, but that sounds like bad tagging in the first place. See say mentioned https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/750694674/history

If you have cases of SC doing this - please link relevant objects. (note: SCEE is a different project)

Thanks for clarification. I've looked for more and this looks like a case of widespread bad tagging (about 25 stations are affected).

FYI StreetComplete doesn't look for railway=platform_edge at all, currently. So, at least the claim

The app does ask things about public_transport=platform, though - whether there are benches, bins, whether it is lit, the name, the ref (in some countries), whether there is a shelter to protect from rain, whether there is tactile paving at the edges.

So, if anyone were to add public_transport=platform to a railway=platform_edge then indeed StreetComplete would ask all these questions about it. The source of the issue then, however, is that public_transport=platform was added to railway=platform_edge in the first place.

I've recently fixed the 30 stations affected by bad tagging and not found any cases of SC doing it.

For some reason many mappers here don't know how to use railway=platform_edge properly.
