CC license start dates #4
Comments
Hi @odonner1 Thanks for reaching out! We decided to not use the start dates of CC licenses as some publishers don't report it in a coherent way. However, we fixed the data gathering for Rockefeller University Press. You can check our dev version here: https://fantastic-palmier-7b1dc3.netlify.app/ It will go live end of May. |
Thanks so much! In looking at the dev version, I see a discrepancy in OA counts between Crossref and Unpaywall. Screenshot attached. It seems that the open licenses are being counted differently for Crossref vs. Unpaywall. Crossref looks more accurate if you are counting Gold only, but Unpaywall might be more accurate if you are counting Bronze (and Green?). All of our journals are hybrid and non-Gold articles become CC-BY-NC-SA after 6 months. Does the Unpaywall % OA in your data include articles categorized as Bronze in Unpaywall?
Thanks,
Rob

It seems you may be missing start dates of CC licenses in Crossref. In looking at the license gaps report, this certainly seems to the case for Rockefeller University Press, where our content is either CC-BY and completely open from day 1, or closed access for the first 6 months after publication with a CC-BY-NC-SA license after 6 months. You can see this tagged in the Crossref data. e.g.;
