The mlab service at heroku is deprecated, so the monitor is broken.

IMO heroku was never a simple home for the monitor, esp. because most of the rest of our infra is on digital ocean droplets.

I think we should:

  • redeploy the monitor to a new or existing DO droplet
  • remove all heroku config from the repo

@bennlich I can deploy as a p2p web application. Do we have a domain we need to use or can we use my public gateway and pinning service for now?

I set up a new VPS and mongoDB instance if anyone is interested in assisting.

Greetings and hugs, @bennlich!
I'm wondering if we could containerize the monitor as a Docker image for easy deployment to a new production server?
My worry is that we haven't a stellar track record of keeping our DO servers updated, and then things fall apart (see: peoplesopen-front :P)

@mattcodenow hi! are you a matt i know?
we had been using https://monitor.peoplesopen.net, which we could point to your instance provided it's set up to be updated through the open repo here :)
