Why not mentioning Free Software? #1
Comments
Thanks for the feedback @ahangarha -- I'm not opposed to updating the language. I was just trying to use the simplest language I'm most familiar with to describe the projects as I see them, but they're definitely biased descriptions. Would you specifically want to change the description for Librapay or other resources as well? |
Definitely not forbidden 😄Feel free to create a PR that aligns the descriptions more closely with the FOSS and/or FLOSS initiatives. Thanks again! |
As almost all Open Source software are Free Software as well, I myself (and R. Stallman) prefer to call them Free Software to mention and highlight their respect to the users' freedom. I think it is a good ethical practice to highlight freedom in such cases in general. My suggestion is to change the title into "Free and Open Source" or "Free/Libre and Open Source". on the rest, I think we can replace OpenSource with FLOSS. If it happens for all, it would be great.
Sure. I can share my suggestion through PR. |
Tnx for curating this list. But I have a question: Why does it deliberately remove "free" from the descriptions? Specifically librapay proudly refers to #FreeSoftware but in the list, it is refered to a platform for donating to #OpenSource projects.
Why not say "Free and Open Source", FOSS or FLOSS? I hope talking about users' freedom is not forbidden.
