On linux, is there a way to revert the keyboard settings, without rebooting?
(I'm currently on a Mint 18.3 pc).

Hello, thanks for trying this out and glad to hear it works for you! Yes, on Ubuntu 16.04, the following allows me to load an en_US keyboard layout: setxkbmap us https://askubuntu.com/questions/395/how-do-i-reset-my-keyboard-layout?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google_rich_qa&utm_campaign=google_rich_qa Be careful, however, this seems to bypass the default GUI layout switcher in Ubuntu. By the way, the GUI layout switcher can also be used itself to reset the changes done by swift-map.
setxkbmap us
