Modifier read error

Hi, im developing a llitle application with you amazing library with 2.54 blend files.

The problem its when i appy modifier on blender (subsurf), the
scene.base.first and his nexts, have "object" property undefined

i think it was a read problem, if you can help me i really appreciate
