SomeWM Crash - Battery Only

Description

Experiencing random somewm crashes while doing random actions. i.e Opening apps, moving mouse, etc but only while on battery on my laptop. If I'm plugged in, it doesn't happen. Also, if I'm running Hyprland session, the freeze never occurs. It's only ever in somewm and I'm having difficulty tracing the root cause of it.

Any advice to help me track down the root issue?

Steps to Reproduce

Open random apps, interact with system for a bit on battery and random freeze will occur. There doesn't seem to be distinguishable pattern to it.

Expected Behavior

No freezing

Actual Behavior

Freezing system. Mouse stops moving and keyboard shortcuts don't work. Forced to reboot. Can't even switch to a different tty.

Don't know what would be relevant for this one. Hard time determining what's root issue.

This sounds like maybe a GPU hang from power state changes?

A few things to try:

1. Run with -d flag and log to a file: somewm -d &>~/somewm.log
2. Enable SysRq keys (echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq) then during freeze hit Alt+SysRq+w to dump blocked tasks
3. Try powerprofilesctl set performance on battery to see if it stops happening

Post the log and any dmesg output with "amdgpu" or "fence" and we can dig deeper.

Thanks for your reply on this! I will keep these actions items in mind and will try if it happens again. I noticed gammastep seemed to be erroring after it crashed. I disabled that from auto-starting and have been running great on battery for almost an hour now. That seems to have been the issue or at-least, related to the issue.

I will keep an eye on it and report back if it does again.
