I'm also interested in this.

I can see there was some work done using mono and SANE API:

I couldn't find any documentaion, but I can probably try to follow shell scripts ...

Alaris (Kodak) provides also TWAIN drivers for Linux so this could be possible with mono or official .NET on Linux.

In RTF documentaion I have found:

The SANE project is not active or up-to-date, maybe someday…

Theoretically this could still works using TWAIN Classic API on Ubuntu.

Even though this is very old I'm leaving it open as a reminder that support on Linux needs to be retested, and a decision made whether or not to update the Bridge for SANE (currently is very out of date)...

@mlmcl62 - please and what about Bridge for TWAIN Classic on Ubuntu?

There are three components to TWAIN Direct which are (1) TWAIN Direct Bridge, (2) TWAIN Direct Cloud and (3) TWAIN Direct Application. TWAIN Direct Cloud does support Ubuntu and if you use a hardware-enabled TWAIN Direct scanner then you don't need TWAIN Bridge. Lastly, if you build a web scanning application then you can use a web browser for scanning so no need for a Ubuntu version of the TWAIN Direct Application. https://vimeo.com/690501525
