The linked article here is behind a paywall (here is the actual article)

Note that the link in the post to the author's personal blog appears to be dead.

I think we should revamp the defaultProps page entirely, to make it clear that it's discouraged and link to React docs for default values instead: https://react.dev/learn/passing-props-to-a-component#specifying-a-default-value-for-a-prop
