Running x86-64 guests

I am looking to run a Debian Bullseye amd64 guest to run Tizen studio as it is not easily installable on Mac M1 (nor presumably Linux arm64).

I have one "running" slowly. I would like to increase the performance. I have a couple of questions towards that end.

Is the hvf acceleration only capable of working with the aarch64 qemu machine? If so, what would need to happen to make it work for the x86 machines?
Has anyone found the magic settings that make x86 guests run tolerably? By which I mean good enough to boot in less than 2 minutes or install the blasted OS in less than 1 hour.
