Introduction to SQL

  • SQL stands for Structured Query Language
  • It is used for accessing and manipulating databases.

What can SQL do?

SQL is widely used in data science and analytics. Following are the reasons which explain why it is widely used:

  • Execute queries against a database
  • Retrieve data from a database
  • Insert records in a database
  • Update records in a database
  • Delete records from a database
  • Create new databases, tables, stored procedures, views
  • Set permissions on tables, procedures, and views

Process of SQL

Structured Query Language contains the following four components in its process:

  • Query Dispatcher
  • Optimization Engines
  • Classic Query Engine
  • SQL Query Engine, etc.

Advantages of SQL

  • No programming needed
  • High-Speed Query Processing
  • Standardized Language
  • Portability
  • Interactive language
  • More than one Data View

Disadvantages of SQL

  • Cost
  • Interface is Complex
  • Partial Database control
