Is this the correct link to the users forum? Is it still been maintained?

I have a question I wished to post the forum, but am having issues connecting, so I include it here
in case this is also a relevant place to ask.

It?s easy to color streamlines with a variable (or expression) along the arc. But is it possible to
color fieldlines with the value of a variable at a specific location on the grid?
To be specific:
Suppose I want to seed streamlines from a plane in my 3D dataset. I want the color of each
streamline to be the value of a scalar variable at the location of the seed point on the plane.
The reason for wanting to do something like this, is that if that scalar variable somehow represents
the connectivity of that point in space (pre-calculated in a fast fieldlines tracing program before
loading into visit), then coloring the fieldlines automatically with this variable allows
one to automate the plotting of fieldines that belong to different connectivity regions (useful when
looking at MHD and flux systems)

In older versions of visit (I use 2.8 often as the newer versions don?t play well with my data), I
use the streamline plot.

I recorded the creation of a streamline  plot using the command option, see below.

If there were a way to query the database for the value of my scalar at the seed points, and use
that to define the color, then I may be able to achieve what I want.

Ok, that is a *really* old version. Not sure I can really provide much support on that.

After close examination of the Streamline plot attributes, I don?t see a way to affect the plot you
want.

To be sure I understand your goal...you want constant colored streamlines but where the color is
determined by a property of the initial seed point, right? Like, which material that point is in.

I could see adding an option to the Data Value options. One of those is ?Seed point ID? which in and
of itself isn?t that useful. But, ?Variable at seed point ID? could be. It would be similar to
?Variable? except that the color would be constant and determined by the value of the variable on
the seed point.

available in higher versions of 2 and version 3, I?m all ears!

Yes, you understand, and put it more succinctly than I:

I want to color the fieldlines based on the value of a variable at the seed point location.

See point ID is already an option no?
