Future of the project

Hello everyone.
This is a really awesome project but seems to be abandoned. I’ve tried all the ways to get in touch with the owner, proposing to help maintaining the project, but with no response.

I’ve even fixed an important issue (#986) but the PR #1072 is just hanging there.

Any thoughts on the project directions and future?

I see lots of abandoned projects across the open-source community as a whole. But rarely, rarely, is there somebody pointing out that it is abandoned, which shows that there is probably some sort of demand here. However, the likelihood that the original owner is going to go back to the project, is low. I say this because their last activity on GitHub was quite literally updating this project.

At the same time, however, you have to ask if its really in need of new features, or if people are just happy with how it is right now. Sure, you did fix #986 with #1072, but is that PR just hanging there going to significantly impact the developer experience? If yes, its probably good for you to just fork the project and start from there. At the end of the day, anybody can fork any project.

That's my thoughts though. There are probably other ways you could approach this.

The PR is about a bug. So yes, it’s something that should be taken care of. But not everyone will face that bug.

Even if users are happy with current state of the project, lacking updates is critical, mainly to fix security issues or to keep the project working with recent JDK versions as I did for XmlDoclet.

Forking is an option, but I really try to avoid that, because it split efforts instead of joining. But I’m not seeing any other option.
