The appearance of many armor pieces in play mode do not match the appearance in editor. I started looking into it and I'm not sure where the disconnect is happening. Here are three instances of the same piece of armor:

this is sub surface scattering on UI materials. It looks appropriate in world but not UI.
Fix is to just add a bool to the CostumeLoader script that instances the materials for skinnedmeshrenderers and turns off their SSS transmission for thosed instance materials
