RED4ext just went viral on me...

I was attempting to switch profiles in Vortex, something that is generally a no-brainer, but today started getting warning errors about primary mods not being there (they were) and now, I can't delete a RED4ext folder in what's left of my game folder, I was attempting to install a fresh of the game, which is now impossible as these 3 folders created today apparently can not be deleted.
Long story short; barring nuking my hard drive and rebuilding ecverything including several load orders of Fallout 4 as they aree on the same drive, I can no longer install, mod or play CB 2077 because of this.

Is there somne exe tyhat wld act as a killcode or something.,..stupid word but the best I cld come up w as I have been up all night fighting w this. It's 5:11am and I am seeing triple as I type this

Sorry, but I have no idea what is happening there. There is nothing in the release build that would be affected by Vortex's profile switcher, besides that, there are no executables.

Are you sure these errors are not caused by Vortex or by the game which is not closing properly?

honeatly no clue, All I know is I cant get rid of the imbedded v of red4ext and what it's holding onto, a romantic letter mod for Judy, Archivexl and something else. It's all locked in my game folder even after having tried to wipe said folder, reinstall over etc. Like I said, STEAM can't even overwrite it w a new install
Tried to aproach it from a C drive search, delete all... nope. Same error that I "dont have permission" to do that. On my PC, wtf?

Funny story, that kind of issue was why I switched from Windows 2000 Pro to macOS in 2005. It doesn't surprise me that this is still how Windows works, too much legacy support still in the system. What surprises me is that on newer macOS with the deprecation of root permissions, I can run into "Operation can not be performed" issues deleting on macOS. Back to square one ;-)

This (can't delete a file) is usually caused by another process having it open (Vortex, cyberpunk2077 game, etc.)

A reboot should be guaranteed to solve this if you don't load Cyperpunk 2077 before trying to delete.

Worst case scenario you can always use robocopy to overwrite the directory which contains the file with an empty one. Helped me get rid of some broken folders in the past.

yes, its why Im assuming that in order to ever play cb77 again, I'll need to nuke my drive w a fresh w11 install.
I have rebooted my PC, uninstalled game and attempted to reinstall (blocked by these very files that I can't delete from any aproach. I can't even scrub my drive of any and all cb77 files as these are buried in them

An option you can try is to use Process Explorer (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer) and see which process is using the folder. If none is using it, maybe try to take ownership of the folder.

I DID manage to successfully DL CB&& asgain, something that cldnt finish last night as the files were basically in the way in the game folder. They asre still there BTW, I'll take a screen shot later and post it here if needed

so... I'm actually more cofused now than last night;
successfully installed CB77,
found and deleted RED$ext as it was still in a folder that shld ONLY have the game files from CDPR as it was a fresh DL and had not connected Vortex to it yet. Connected vortex to my game and...everything works? I am one very confused sasquach
