USGS is getting rid of the username/password authentication using the /login url to using the /login-token url. This is mandatory change that will take place in February. See the email below.

Affected url: "https://m2m.cr.usgs.gov/api/api/json/stable/login"
Change to: "https://m2m.cr.usgs.gov/api/api/json/stable/login-token"

Hello USGS/EROS Machine-to-Machine (M2M) User,

Thank you for your use of the USGS M2M API. We are emailing you to notify you of an upcoming change we are implementing as part of an ongoing effort to improve the security of the M2M API. The current ‘login’ endpoint, which is used for authentication within the API, will be deprecated in February of 2025. Users are encouraged to create one or more M2M Application Tokens and to transition to using the 'login-token' endpoint in lieu of the current ‘login’ endpoint prior to February 2025. This will allow for continued data access. The USGS has created a document to aid users in the creation and use of an Application Token. More details are available here: https://www.usgs.gov/media/files/m2m-application-token-documentation
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we move towards a more secure solution.
Please email [email protected] with any questions.

Thank you,
USGS M2M API Team
