Feature request: hyperbolic tape measure

Can the drawing tool be updated to have a "hyperbolic tape measure" mode, where instead of lines, etc. being solid colors, they'd have numbers every absolute unit, and marks every half/quarter/some fraction of an absolute unit?

Not exactly the same, but the "grid" feature is supposed to provide a similar functionality -- it can be centered on an arbitrary point, it shows distances along an arbitrary line, and also angles (in radians) from that line.

That works well for distances along lines, but it becomes cumbersome for distances along other kinds of curves.
