I'm interested in running MoinMoin on Python3 and it doesn't look like MoinMoin2 will be out soon. I found your repo and am wondering what the status is.

Does it work for you?

How do you get it to run?

Would you like bug reports and possibly some help fixing them?

Hi Eric, sorry for the very delayed reply.

Current status as of August 7, 2026:

• This is a maintained Python 3 port of MoinMoin 1.x. It works for the deployment/use cases I maintain, but the package version is still 3.0.0a1, so I would treat it as an alpha/compatibility fork rather than a fully supported MoinMoin 2 replacement.
• master now builds on Ubuntu 24.04 / Python 3.12.
• The earlier Python 3.12 port replaced the removed imp plugin-loading code. The latest fix in Fix Python 3.12 plugin package loading #2 completes that migration by loading wiki plugin directories as real packages. This fixes action/plugin imports that could fail with 'wikiconfig' is not a package and return HTTP 500. A regression test was added, and the focused Python 3.12 test run passed all 7 tests.
• Publish public py3moin Docker image #3 added a public linux/amd64 Docker image. ch3n2k/py3moin:latest is available now, along with the immutable commit tag ch3n2k/py3moin:sha-c0f19f2. Pull requests build the image for validation, while pushes to master publish latest and a commit tag.

The Docker image expects a Moin instance mounted at /data, including /data/uwsgi.ini; the image starts with uwsgi --ini /data/uwsgi.ini. The mounted instance should also contain your wikiconfig.py and wiki data/ / underlay/ directories. For example, if uwsgi.ini serves HTTP on port 8080:

Please back up an existing MoinMoin 1.x instance before testing or migrating it.

Bug reports and pull requests are welcome. For bug reports, please include the Python version or Docker tag, startup method, traceback/log output, and a minimal reproduction when possible.
