Rename project to have a new name for the application (Notepad2z, NotepadZu, or...?)

Came across this while looking for a Notepad2 replacement. That program was abandoned in 2012; that's 9 years ago! Thank you for actively maintaining this.

Since this project has a life of its own now, I think its app should have its own name (in the same vein as Notepad3 and Notepad2e). Perhaps, consider these suggestions:

Zotepad

z for @zufuliu as a tribute to the maintainer 🙏

Notepad2z

similar to Notepad2e

Notepad2-Z or Notepad2-zuf

similar to Notepad2-mod

NotepadZu

/notepad zoo/ sounds like Notepad2 /notepad too/ but cooler 😎

Personally I like Zotepad as it's unique and noticeable, or NotepadZu as it has character and freshness, but Notepad2z maintains the connection to the official Notepad2.

This is a good point and makes sense. Some people may have scripts that rely on the exact name. One particular usage is Git's commit message editor. (Personally though I have it set to just notepad.exe which redirects to Notepad2 via the registry.)

I think we indeed need a unique project name (repository name and program name should be kept unchanged) to distinguish between different notepad2 forks.
using my (briefed) name as suffix is somewhat not improper, as it feels to me contributions by other contributors are totally forgotten.
I think "-mod" like neuter suffix is good, but we need to pick another one (not derived from "modification" or "extension", as already used).

I hope we can find some suitable suffixes before January (v4.22.01 scheduled on January 16th would be a good time to make the changes), please share your ideas and intelligence, thanks🙏.

• Notepad22 (to commemorate the name change in v4.22.01)
• Notepad5 (because there is no Notepad5)
• NotepadX (where X is any number greater than 3, because there's no NotepadX) 😆

NotepadZ could have been a great name but it is already taken. For me, it doesn't matter how many people contributed to it, things that matter to me is who gave a new life to it and maintained it.

NotepadX sounds dope to me. Personally, I can also suggest NotepadR, R refers to 'Reborn'. I was fed up with the native notepad and started using the original notepad2. After a while, I started using Notepad2-mod for a while. But I was sad because it was abandoned. I wanted more features and started looking for similar projects or forks. And then I found Notepad2. I really liked it. I use it almost every day. I am amazed at the constant improvements. Notepad2 looks like a reborn of the original Notepad2 and Notepad2-mod to me. That's why I suggest NotepadR.

OK, Notepad2r is our first candidate 👍. it can also means Notepad2 rebranded (but without an actually name 😃), or other good words.

Consider that we'd better to rename the master branch to main (see https://github.com/github/renaming), rename the repository totally is considerable, the document at https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/creating-and-managing-repositories/renaming-a-repository says GitHub auto redirects links to old repository to the new one.

Rename the master branch seems can be done immediately, as https://github.com/github/renaming indicates GitHub finished all the hard work👍. I think we need to wait some days, so other forks / packagers can retrieve latest v4.21.09 code without any changes.

Announced in issue #380, I hope first commit (unless there are regressions for v4.21.09, workaround for issue #378 can be done in this week) for v4.21.11 goes into the main branch.

Two words come into my head: Notepad2Re and Notepad2ℜ (which is Notepad2\Re in LaTeX), both are easy to pronounce than Notepad2R.

I'm glad to have found this new version just the other day, I was using one of the old forks.

• Can I recommend getting it a mention (even better, a recommendation; and removal of dead ones and note of how active) on Flo's original page so people can be directed to here? Of the ones currently mentioned there only Notepad2e seems to be recently active although my impression is it is simpler than this fork. However it's possibly worth a glance to see if it has any useful concepts if not already done so - https://github.com/ProgerXP/Notepad2e/releases
• I really like the idea of Notepad2 Reborn - with the '2' as the vote only had Notepad Reborn (without the '2').
• There may be the old issue of split voting but I see the vote gets around that by allowing multiple choices - I originally just selected 1 then resubmitted it with several, hopefully that's been processed in some suitable way. I wonder if others only submitted 1 choice rather than the ideal of several.

I have the same idea, keeping the main name of Notepad 2 unchanged. After the Notepad2-Mod stops, subsequent people will develop and mention it on its basis, and it is an important member of the Notepad2 family history. Naming (especially find a short one with less than 9 letters) is hard for me, we already spent too much time on this topic, I think it's time to end it. I will just pick Notepad4 (though Notepad 5, 6, 8 already picked by other people). Everything (exe, ini, source file name, etc.) will be renamed, whole project will be written with modern C++ (C++17 with few C++20), so next version (v24.xx, same version scheme as Ubuntu, 7-zip and LibreOffice) may be delayed.
