A novelty category reflects how close a query genome seems to be related to known whole genomes in a reference database. The relation of a genome to known marker genes that have no known whole genome is ignored by the categorisation. If a genome was classified on species level and a whole genome in the reference of the same species exists, the novelty will be declared as 'new_strain'. If no reference genome of the same species is known, but there is a reference genome of a different species of the same genus, the novelty category will be 'new_species' and so on.
