CSIRT Toolbox

The CSIRT Toolbox is a comprehensive suite of tools designed for Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) to aid in the clean-up, analysis, and management of data on recovered and infected drives, as well as network monitoring and analysis.

Tools

Laundry Services

Provides various functions to clean, sanitize, and manage data on drives.

  • Bleach Mode: Moves data from a dirty drive to a specified destination directory, while also deleting prohibited files and directories.
  • Pre-soak: Deletes prohibited files from the destination directory.
  • Wash: Scans the bleached drive with ClamAV antivirus.
  • Dry: Write-protects destination folders.
  • Fold: Uploads data to a configured remote storage using rclone.
  • Tidy Up: Compresses destination folders and deletes the original folders.

Log Voodoo

A set of tools for scrubbing and coorelating logs, providing detailed statistics about the matches.

  • Pattern Counter: Counts the number of matches of each pattern per day from logs with timestamps. Provides statistics including total pattern matches, total unique pattern matches, highest match date, most common source IP, most common destination IP, and most common pattern matched.

Wifi Shark

A network monitoring and analysis tool for observing data flows and detecting anomalies in network traffic.

Installation

Dependencies

Before installing CSIRT Toolbox, make sure your system has the required dependencies installed.

Common Dependencies

  • Python 3.x
  • pip (Python package installer)
  • git (optional, for cloning the repository)

Additional Dependencies for Aircrack-ng

  • Autoconf
  • Automake
  • Libtool
  • shtool
  • OpenSSL or libgcrypt development package
  • pkg-config
  • ethtool and rfkill (for Airmon-ng)
  • lsusb (if USB bus is present)
  • lspci (if PCI/PCIe bus is present)
  • libnl-dev (LibNetlink 1) or libnl-3-dev and libnl-genl-3-dev (LibNetlink 3), can be disabled with --disable-libnl
  • Kernel headers, gcc, make, and the Standard C++ Library development package

Installing on Linux

Debian-based Systems (Debian, Ubuntu)

sudo apt update
sudo apt install clamav p7zip-full python3 python3-pip python3-tk policykit-1 autoconf automake libtool shtool libssl-dev libnl-3-dev libnl-genl-3-dev ethtool rfkill lsusb lspci build-essential rclone -y

Arch-based Systems (Arch Linux, Manjaro)

sudo pacman -Syu clamav p7zip-full python python-pip tk polkit autoconf automake libtool shtool openssl libnl ethtool rfkill usbutils pciutils base-devel rclone --noconfirm

RHEL-based Systems (CentOS, Fedora)

sudo yum update
sudo yum install epel-release -y
sudo yum install clamav p7zip-full python3 python3-pip tkinter polkit autoconf automake libtool shtool openssl-devel libnl3-devel ethtool rfkill usbutils pciutils gcc-c++ rclone -y

Apple macOS (may not work)

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
brew install clamav p7zip-full python3 autoconf automake libtool openssl shtool pkg-config hwloc pcre sqlite3 libpcap cmocka rclone

Installing CSIRT Toolbox

  1. Clone the repository or download the source code.
  2. Navigate to the CSIRT Toolbox directory.
  3. Configure the script by editing the sample.config.ini file in the cfg directory. Save the file as config.ini once complete.

Usage

  1. Run the script by executing ./csirt or ./csirt --cli if you want to force CLI mode.
  2. Follow the on-screen menu to choose the desired operation.
  3. Enter the necessary inputs when prompted.
  4. View the logs in the log directory for detailed information about each operation.

Configuration

The config.ini file in the cfg directory allows you to configure the following settings:

  • Source directory: The directory from which data will be copied.
  • Destination directory: The directory where data will be moved or uploaded.
  • RemoteName: This should match the name of the remote as configured in rclone.
  • BasePath: This is the path within your remote storage where files will be uploaded. This path should already exist unless your rclone configuration allows for dynamic creation of directories. This could be set to a path like "MyFolder/SubFolder" or even left blank to copy directly into the root of the remote.
  • WLAN Interface: The interface you want to use for WiFi Shark tools.
  • Patterns file: The file containing patterns to search for in log files.
  • Log directory: The directory containing the log files to be analyzed.

The extensions.list, prohibited.files, and prohibited.dirs files can also be configured and tailored as necessary based on your own findings, policies, or preferences.

Requirements

  • Python 3.x
  • Python Tkinter
  • Pip
  • 7-Zip
  • ClamAV
  • Rclone
    • You will need to run rclone config prior to running the CSIRT Toolbox. Take note of the Name given to your remote share and enter this in the config.ini file.
  • Dependencies listed in requirements.txt
