@alperaltuntas I just noticed that this is now on all the time if ww3 is used, that's not what we want is it?

Yes, we'd like ww3 diagnostics to be enabled at all times. We don't expect any noticeable data or performance hit from this, since we only output surface diagnostics fields on a 3-degree grid.
