How To Set Up Connect AnyThing
Connect AnyThing needs a Wi-Fi-enabled Galileo. That means:
-
One Intel Galileo GEN1 or GEN2. * Note: If you have a Galileo GEN1, you'll need to update the firmware.
-
One half PCI-E Centrino Wi-Fi card. We've tested ConnectAnyThing with [Intel N-135, N-6205, N-6235] ( http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-wireless-n-135.html )
-
One half-to-full PCI-E bracket adapter
- One (or two) Wi-Fi antennas.
- One Micro SD card. Any size between 4 and 32GB. Fat32 formatted (most come that way.)
Choosing between Galileo GEN1 and GEN2? Galileo GEN2 has the option to control Servo motors, and doesn't need a firmware update to get started.
-
Download the project's zip file from the release page. NOTE: For Galileo GEN1 use v0.2.2 and below. For GEN2 use v0.2.4 and above.
-
Unpack the file.
-
Copy the entire contents into the root directory of the Micro SD card. Keep the file structure intact.
GEN1 ONLY: In the SD card, unzip the file called "image-full-clanton.zip". (The zip file should contain the file "image-full-clanton.ext3")
- When complete, the Micro SD card's directory tree should look as follows:
- boot (directory)
- bzImage (file)
- core-image-minimal-initramfs-claton.cpio.gz (file)
- image-full-clanton.ext3 (file)
- image-full-clanton.zip (file) <- This file can be removed to free up space.
- Put the Micro SD card in the Galileo board and power it up using the power supply that came with your Galileo. It takes about 1 minute and 10 seconds for the Galileo to boot-up.
-
On your mobile device or computer, connect to the Wi-Fi network- default named "ConnectAnyThing".
-
Start Chrome (34+) or Safari on your device, and in the address bar, type either: "cat", "cat.com", or "192.168.0.10".
-
If successful, you should see the ConnectAnyThing page come up.
ENJOY...!!!
troubleshooting
-
If you're looking at tractors on cat.com, you're not connected to the Galileo's Wi-Fi hotspot.
-
If you dont see the Wi-Fi hotspot appear after a minute or two, check to make sure your SD card is FAT32 formatted.
-
If you're using a Galileo GEN1 and you don't see the network, make sure your Galileo board has [firmware version 782 or above] ( https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-21838 ).
-
If you're able to connect to the webpage but you just see a spinning wheel, this is usually caused by a browser that doesn't support Websockets. Try updating your browser or using Chrome.
When handling the board, be careful not to cause a short by touching the foil backing of the Wi-Fi antenna to the underside of the board! Standoffs are recommended, or you can cover any foil with masking tape.
