#Collection of ideas for the Interactive Cologne Hackathon ##(June 18-19th, Cologne)
Startups, techies, investors and entrepreneurs will meet in a creative atmosphere to discuss hot topics and network with other technology industry professionals who share similar passions, and social interests.
“Cologne is the city of bridges. Not only literally – there are a total of 8 bridges within the city limits crossing one of the world’s busiest waterways, the Rhine River – but also figuratively. Colognians are proud of their liberal, inclusive, creative, and entrepreneurial history - and we aim to nurture and promote these values here at Interactive Cologne. Specifically, we will try to bridge the gap(s) between the often divided camps of hackers, artists, business guys, and investors who are all part of Cologne’s diverse startup community. At Interactive Cologne, we plan to build the following bridges:
- ‘Who needs (German) hackers anyway?! The case for offshore development.’
- ‘Fuck suits! Why hackers are the better founders.’
- ‘There’s no ‘I’ in ‘Team’ - Every startup / founder depends on Biz AND Tech’
- ‘Finding CTO’s and other technical talent – avoiding the most common misconceptions’
- ‘Pitch your startup... To a hacker!’
- ‘Monetize your effort!’
Talented web & app developers, hackers and designers gather at INTERACTIVE COLOGNE to kick-off their own or others’ projects, refine or complete code collaboratively or just experiment - preferably open source.
We provide some hardware to make your project happen. Got more ideas? Feel free to contact us! Feel free to bring your own hardware.
- A handful of Quadrocopters
- Videobeamers
- (Borg16 -> http://www.das-labor.org/wiki/Borg16) -> not available, we had technical difficulties with the new firmware
- Several Arduinos and Breadboards
- Computers with Audio- and Video-Software
- Mobile Devices
- MaKey MaKey + leitfähige Farbe + Kupferbahnen
- Apps (iOS) utilizing the Intelligent Headset (http://intelligentheadset.com) - WIN a "Solemate" speaker for the best Intelligent Headset apps or take a very early prototype with you home (Rules apply :-))
- We bring prototypes, API and demo app
- App idea - Game Friend spotter: Multiplayer game where you receive points if you spot and click your friends before they do. Audio cues can be given in 3D with the direction of your friends.
- App idea - Create a binaural audio maker for creation of binaural audio universes
- App idea - Remote control your drone with the Intelligent Headset
- App idea - Come up with your own idea.
- nodecopter (40 + computer controlled drones)
- Arducopter - Might be a bit ambitious, but the aim of the project is to building an Arducopter, getting it to take some nice GoPro videos/pictures of the event and maybe even finding a way to autostich the pictures together into panorama views of the rooms that the whole project takes place in ;).
- Electrify the Coworking Foosball table, allowing it not only to keep score automatically so you can concentrate on drinking and not pesky numbers, but also measure the velocity of goals and send statistics into “the cloud” so you can automatically check who’s wasting the most time playing games instead of working.
- Gamelan: We’d like to build a large collective xylophone. Noise would be made by beer bottles (brewery as sponsor, has “kölnbezug”) which can be tuned to different pitches by filling them to different levels with water. The notes are activated by small cell phone/vibration motors hanging off the side of the bottles. Visitors to the exhibit can open a website on their phone which displays a button, each site session is assigned a random bottle which they control by pressing their button. Additionally we could add other “instruments” than just beer bottles or teach the gamelan to play itself in interaction with it’s environment. Prototype :). We'll try to add MIDI in and out functionality and Anykey-based sensor-to-MIDI functions so that all sorts of other things can be hooked to the gamelan and other projects can interact with the instrument, if interested.
- Open Data
- 3D Printing: Interface improvements
- Alternative music-disc-forms: There is currently an ongoing music-printing-at-fablab project going on (http://www.digital-tools-blog.com/blog/3869-vinyl-records-the-fablab-way-laser-cutter-and-3d-printer). But the spiral form you need for the audio-track of the music-disc takes interpolation-effort. This interpolation artifacts can be seen and heard. If you would make another form, like a cylinder, if would be far more easy to print music at fablabs. How could such a form look like? How could it be played? (Nodepond)
- Railsgirls
- Coding for Kids - For the Interactive Cologne Kids Track we will offer two days of fun activities for kids. The activities will be related to coding, electronics, arts and crafts and getting to know hacking culture in a magical, enticing atmosphere. We'll have artists aboard who'll help the kids set up their own animated stories and there may be time for one or the other face paint as well. Make sure to drop by and bring your kids along.
- City Serious Games
- Working with Scores: Set up some score-systems and achievements. This maybe also applies to the orga-team. (nodepond)
- Random Input-Output-Hacks: Let's take some gear and make fun stuff in and outside the church! (Nodepond)
- Step on device + games: low-tech hardware for lots of fun scenarios in the city. e.g. step on and get sound feedback. play against someone else and make as fast or as many steps as you can. step on only your colored spots faster, etc. @superquadratic & @ldacruz
- A multi-iPad, coordinated Touch and Rotation aware Gem Puzzle. Some initial thoughts: Single app, Master and slave mode and nodes, Each iPad knows it’s position within the grid, iPads coordinate animations with neighbors, WLAN based (due to limited Bluetooth options), Possibly bring this to the app store if it works.
- Music Hack Days
- Highway Soundtrack-App Just imagine, you are on the highway driving through Germany and you can listen to songs tagged to the different places you go through. Sort of your own highway soundtrack. The A9 playlist from Berlin to Munich - drive past the large Berlin prefabricated buildings to local techno music right through to the Alps to Bavarian folk music. Or on highway A3 towards Cologne where you can hear a typical kölsch song when you see the first glimpse of the top of the famous Cologne cathedral. No matter what...every genre, every route, depending on speed, weather and personal taste in music, there are no limits to your creativity.
- Cologne Location Based Music Hack Digitization has changed our everyday lives. For the last few years we have experienced an increasingly connection between the real and digital world. And also with music we can merge both worlds by linking our favorite places with our favorite music. The idea behind Cologne's location based music hack is to link your favorite music to your favorite places in Cologne and to make them more accessible to other people. Whether it‘s the place for your after work beer at Aachener Weiher, your favorite restaurant in your neighborhood or the jogging route along the Rhine side. Once the platform is open, you can start your journey through Cologne and show everyone your favorite places with the right music.
- Cologne Park Music New York already has it - and now we want it too. Our own musical symphony linked to a place (Jugendpark, Rheinufer, Grüngürtel, etc.) playing differnet music depending on the way you walk.
- Music non-GEMA-watermarking The idea of this project is to find some sort of music-watermarking, that could enable an app to show, if currently music from GEMA-members is playing or GEMA-free music. This could be a great tool for makeing non-GEMA-evenings - or to show GEMA vs. non-GEMA-scores. (Nodepond)
- NoSQL
- Foxx REST-Api, NoSQL-Database and WebPage all-in-one. In this workshop we are going to use a framework called Foxx built on top of the NoSQL Database ArangoDB. There we will hack a web page offering Sign in with Twitter. Then we will make use of the public Twitter-API to search your favourite hashtags and collect information on users. Finally we will hack a visualisation for the results. On the way we will hack an oauth-library for Foxx implementing the complete OAuth-1.0 workflow and thereby make integration of other OAuth Services trivial. Further we will see how to work with the NoSQL Database ArangoDB to store the data retrieved from Twitter.
- C/C++ hacking: who still wants to use scripting languages these days? Let's hack on some low-level stuff in C and C++, e.g. optimising data structures for size & speed, memory usage etc.
- C/C++ hacking: Extending the ICU (International Components for Unicode) support in ArangoDB. ArangoDB needs wrapper functions and classes to access the ICU date and calendar services from inside the JavaScript engine V8. The goal is to have the ability to format and parse timestamps with timezone and locale support with JavaScript.
- JavaScript library for creating the iOS 7 background parallax effect for any Web app (or maybe the Firefox OS homescreen), just defining an image path for it to work. Needs Accelerometer API plus Canvas or WebGL. @skddc
- Building a prototype platform for searching and offering great workshops/classes for everything, e.g. categories like music, coding or everythinfg else. All about learning experience in real groups, with people who share the same interest and from people who know how to do it....I'm not a great hacker, so please help me, if you like!! Maybe you're the right one to start some awesome business...***
- mobile offline caching / syncronization framework
- Fun with Windows Phone and @levdaywalker
- Let's check out the platform
- Learn something about the tools
- Hack your ideas from 0 to APP with our support
- Feel free bringing your own ideas ;)
- build meine-kaputte-stadt.de @mobbit
- document damages in your city with your smartphone (GPS/Photo)
- raises awareness about damaged streets, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, signs, …
- report repaired spots and documents for how long the damage was present
- open source, probably rails app + openstreetmap + location api and manual image upload for the start
