As computer programmers and future entrepreneurs, you’re going to be tasked with creating things for real people under conditions that are not always ideal. Today you will gain real world experience dividing up tasks, utilizing the strengths of your team and presenting an app product to a group of investors. The tools you learn and skills you build today will be used throughout the summer.
Today, you’ve been given a difficult task, some may consider it mission impossible. Mission Bit is asking you to create an app 3pm today that includes research, interviews, and visits to various neighborhoods in the city.
Your teams have been assigned, as in the real world you don’t always have the luxury of picking the team you want to work with.
Your team will receive a total of 100 points based on your ability to effectively include the information and voices from members of the community listed below. Your goal with these interviews and research articles is to find a solution to the challenges people are facing in their neighborhoods. The articles help frame the challenges and the voices of real people will give additional context. You may find that the articles and interviews don’t relate perfectly. You’ll need to be creative in finding out how to use everyone’s voice.
Information from the article on the digital divide (25pts)
Interview with 2 small business owners located in your assigned neighborhood about how they currently engage customers through technology and ways they’d like to exchange customers. (50 pts total, 25pts per owner) Interview with a senior citizen from your neighborhood about what they think the major challenges are facing their neighborhood and their ideas on how technology can help address those challenges (15 pts) Research study from Harvard Business Review on #tech #inequality (10pts) Bonus Points Interview a tech entrepreneur that you’ve never met before (25pts) Interview a San Francisco elected officials or member of their staff (25pts) A bibliography activity Requirements for Points: You need to provide either photo, video or transcript proof that the interviews have taken place. You cannot speak to people that you never met before today
Complexity: How in complex is your piece. (50 pts) Appearance: How well does your creation look? Does it have flare? (30 pts) Originality of your app as a solution to your neighborhoods problem (40 pts) References to the Neighborhood you visited (Images, Maps, restaurant names) (30 pts) BONUS: Sound usage (an interview, some sort of noise when looking at the images, the sounds of construction in a busy neighborhood to elude to the change that neighborhood is experiencing, etc.;) (10pts)
General Guidelines Presentations must be between 5 and 10 minutes Your app goal must be clear. What problem did you create this app for? Everyone from your group has to share an aspect of the presentation It is okay to use humor, but goofing off during your presentations will result in a point deduction Tell us where you went? What you observed and who you spoke to. What was the thought process you had to creating the specific parts of the app you created. What were the struggles of creating an app based off of something you might’ve been knew to learning about or visiting?
