I think we need to distinguish a few paper types in the project documentation, and describe the project lifespan for each:

The standard lab paper, which involves analyzing processed data from one of our datasets.
Data descriptor papers for datasets acquired in the lab (e.g., EF, GRMPY).
Software papers
Meta-analyses?
