# Field-Level Authorization Implementation Summary

## Objective
Add field-level authorization to GraphQL schema to protect sensitive fields (vault addresses, provider keys, phone numbers) with role-based and ownership-based access control.

## Completed Tasks

### 1. Core Authorization Infrastructure ✅

**File: `src/graphql/fieldAuthorization.ts` (257 lines)**
- `FieldPermission` enum with 9 permission types
- Role-based permission mapping (admin, compliance, support, user)
- `hasFieldPermission()` - permission checking with ownership enforcement
- `authorizeFieldAccess()` - throws GraphQL errors on denial
- Masking utilities: `maskStellarAddress()`, `maskPhoneNumber()`, `maskSensitiveField()`
- `isSensitiveField()` - identifies sensitive field names

**Key Features:**
- Declarative role-to-permission mapping
- Ownership verification support
- Masking strategies (full mask, partial mask, redaction)
- Extensible permission model

### 2. Field Resolver Wrappers ✅

**File: `src/graphql/fieldResolverWrapper.ts` (252 lines)**
- `withFieldAuthorization()` - HOF for authorization checks
- `withFieldMasking()` - HOF for masking (phone, stellar, generic)
- `withFieldArrayAuthorization()` - HOF for filtering arrays
- `checkFieldAccessBatch()` - batch permission checking
- `createFieldAuthorizationContext()` - context builder

**Key Features:**
- Higher-order functions for clean resolver wrapping
- Composable authorization patterns
- Support for async resolvers
- Type-safe implementations

### 3. GraphQL Directives ✅

**File: `src/graphql/fieldAuthDirectives.ts` (319 lines)**
- `@auth(requires, requireOwnership)` - permission-based access
- `@mask(strategy, requires)` - masking directive
- `@requireRole(role)` - role-based access
- `applyFieldAuthDirectives()` - applies directives to schema
- `extractFieldAuthRequirements()` - schema introspection

**Key Features:**
- Declarative field-level authorization in GraphQL schema
- Runtime directive processing

### 4. Enhanced GraphQL Context ✅

**File: `src/graphql/context.ts` (updated)**
- Extended `GraphQLContext` interface with role info
- Added `UserRoleInfo` interface for role details
- `buildGraphqlContext()` now async - fetches user role from DB
- Role and permission information cached in context
- Support for both JWT and API key authentication

### 5. Authorized GraphQL Schema ✅

**File: `src/graphql/schemaWithAuth.ts` (262 lines)**
- Extended schema with `@auth` and `@mask` directives
- Vault type with protected fields (vaultAddress, vaultSecret)
- Transaction type with masked phone/address fields
- Dispute type with protected resolution/notes fields
- ProviderKey type with fully protected fields
- Query mutations with ownership enforcement

**Protected Fields:**
- Vault: vaultAddress, vaultSecret, vaultTransactions
- Transaction: phoneNumber (masked), stellarAddress (masked), providerReference
- Dispute: reportedBy, resolution, notes
- Provider: keyValue, keyName

### 6. Resolver Authorization ✅

**Updated File: `src/graphql/server.ts`**
- Changed context building to async to support DB queries
- Updated both HTTP and WebSocket context builders
- Proper error handling for async context

### 7. Comprehensive Tests ✅

**File: `src/graphql/__tests__/fieldAuthorization.test.ts` (424 lines)**
- 30+ unit tests covering:
- Permission checking for all roles
- Ownership enforcement
- Masking utilities (stellar, phone)
- Sensitive field identification
- Role-based access scenarios
- Complete access verification workflows

**File: `src/graphql/__tests__/fieldResolverWrapper.test.ts` (300 lines)**
- 25+ integration tests covering:
- Authorization wrappers for all scenarios

## Implementation Features
