We tried to have a quasi-feature request board on the roadmap by manually aggregating issues from GitHub. The goal was to avoid splitting votes between GitHub and our website. In retrospect, this didn't really work, as (my hunch is) people on the website would be far more likely to vote on things that don't require going to GitHub.

And with the successful adoption of our own community (read: it didn't take much convincing for people to create community profiles), it's worth just creating a place for users to post their own feature requests.

We can segment them by product, and map them to small teams. The top requests can aggregate to the small team pages (as seen in #7608).

Todos

Management

  • Moderator-only form to add feature requests to a small team page

UI

  • Surface in three places
    • All requests on /roadmap
    • On individual small team pages (limited to requests for that specific team)
    • On homepage (top ~5 requests) aggregated between all teams

Other

  • Track people who voted for features, so we can send notifications when it moves to WIP or changelog

Current thinking

  • we show the list of top X voted features on /roadmap
  • you can click to see a full list - more like a table view
  • option to filter by product
  • sorting options to see newest/highest voted
  • searchable
  • subscribe to new items posted for specific teams
  • only moderators can manage
    • title
    • description
    • team
    • link to issue (optional)
  • can link a github issue (and pull in title/description by default) but should be able to manually enter a simplified title/description
    • no github reaction/emoji vote aggregation - all voting happens directly through posthog.com accounts
