Instead of a big release with a lot of changes as I've done in the past, I'm trying to do more frequent releases but with fewer and "minor" improvements.
Half a year has passed from the last V's release. I've been kinda..."busy", mentally. Let's hope that I will release more V's fix in the future, and hopefully it won't be someone who has to fix V instead 😛

v1.8.1 Changelog
-
👍 Great increase compatibility with GOG version of the game. If the fix recognize that you are using the GOG game version instead of the retail one, and will:
- Avoid installing useless patches (that are already distributes by GOG)
- This could avoid messes that often occur with Windows security under certain circumstances
- This will also make the GOG version use their patch for audio and some other things, GREATLY improving the whole experience and compatibility
- For those who knows what I'm talking about: no, I've not yet implemented dgVodoo. Also, if someone knows that audio fix has CD Project used I would truly want to know
- Use the standard savegame location
- For several releases, I've used a patch that moved the savedata location inside the "My Games" folder, but ONLY on the GOG version of the game the original location will be used instead, so you can syncronize your savedata using GOG Galaxy if you want
- ❗
⚠️ PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE IF YOU HAVE PLAYED THE GOG VERSION USING AN OLDER VERSION OF THE V'S FIX, UNINSTALL THE GAME, DELETE EVERYTHING INSIDE THE GAME FOLDER, REINSTALL THE GAME AND MOVE BACK SAVEGAMES INSIDE THE ORIGINAL FOLDER. You can find how seeing THIS page of the Wiki
- Thanks to the whole CD Project Team for this deal with Konami. I hope you can go even further in restoring games that has been lost in time; games that not only are masterpieces, but part of the personal history of many of us players! Greetings to my Polish friends from Italy! 🇵🇱 🇮🇹
- Avoid installing useless patches (that are already distributes by GOG)
-
🧀 New cheat added!
- Torture autopass
- If activated, you don't have to press anything to succesfully pass certain game scenes
- Find how to activate every cheat on the related Wiki page
- Thanks to eol. Without him, it would have remained only in our fantasies
- I enjoy button smashing...but I would gladly avoid of having to use some pomades to make me pass the pain of having wanted to try a run on Extreme difficulty. I guess I'm getting older? 🧓
- Torture autopass
-
Added button on the "Extra tab" that will tell you where the game actually is reading savegames
- Will show different location, based on if you have the GOG or Retail version of the game
- If the directory exist, it will open it in Explorer
-
Now debug mode is easier to activate
- Very small change, but substantial. Not making it sooner was a rookie mistake.
-
Fix missing state change in "Invert trigger with analogs" button on the Controls form.
- Now its showing correctly its changing status
-
丨爪卩尺ㄖᐯ乇ᗪ 丂ㄒ卂乃丨ㄥ丨ㄒㄚ
- Now I feat that is too stable. I'm planning in destabilizing it in the next release to rebalance entrophy in the universe.

v1.8 Changelog
-
🔥 Unlocked internal resolution
- Now is possible to change the internal rendering resolution (aka framebuffer) indipendently from the windows size.
- Downsample from 8K or 2K on your 1080p monitor, or simply enjoy the improved resolution enhancement if you are a 4K user
- To make the game working at 8K internal res you don't need a beefy PC: I've tried with my 1660TI and works and looks great, even without Anti-Aliasing (which I would still recommend to further increase the 😮 effect
- You can also choose to use the '512' internal res to see the game like you would on a PS2.
- Nostalgia is terrible
- Until today, ALL the previous fix make the game run at most 1080p, regardless of what resolution you set in the "Resolution Tab"
- Ops 😢
- After 3 years I'm working on V's, Manu27089 has tried himself and explained me what the obscure "Rendering Size" I found inside the original game truly meant. Kudos to him+++++ 🏅🏅🏅🏅
- The fix will dinamically ask the user to choose the best internal rendering size, if an higher monitor resolution is inserted from the fix or from the autoconfig at first startup
- The previous "Rendering size" option inside "Graphics Tab" has been changed with "Internal Resolution" and has new options
- Now is possible to change the internal rendering resolution (aka framebuffer) indipendently from the windows size.
-
❗ Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Deadzones
- Fixed a bug that makes Snake/Raiden walk "jerkly" if you move in any diagonal
- Now deadzones are better studied: they are more reactive, and they resemble the HD Remake
- 🎉 Thanks to Vishus Feelgood for it. If is not working, you can get angry to him 😄
-
Controls Tab
- Now is possible to switch dorsal with triggers in both gamepads (xbox and ds4) and both layouts (V's and PS2)
- Albeit is different from the original game, could be more useful for a lot of people
- Now 🎮 Steam controller is better integrated inside the V's fix
- Isn't directly included inside V's (I can't do that) but the overall better integration with Steam should truly facilitate to make it working.
- The fix itself explain how to make it working. Just follow the instruction.
- A little improvement for ⌨️ keyboard players
- Now the game original keyboard button layout is explained with a beefy image,
- Is possible to not use that button layout and use an alternative button layout provided by the community
- Unfortunately, you still have to manually install them, but now the whole operation is much easier than before
- How to do that? Check the related Wiki page
- Now is possible to switch dorsal with triggers in both gamepads (xbox and ds4) and both layouts (V's and PS2)
-
New artwork included!
-
Cheats!
- Now is possible to use some cheats to splice up your playthrough.
- There's a dedicated Wiki page on how to use them (NB: You can't enable them from the V's fix GUI)
- 🎉 Thanks to Whitesnoop. He told me where to put your hands to make them work!
-
- After debug mode in enabled, the fix will display (in the upper-left corner) what you have to do to produce a valid log.
- Now should be easier to produce a debug log if debug mode in enabled.
- I've received at least 200 empty and totally useless debug logs. Maybe is my fault because I've now well explained how it work.
- I'm pretty confident that a lot of people didn't read the guide, nonetheless
-
'Add2Steam' function
- If Steam is not installed, show a more informative message
-
MGS2 artworks for Steam Library
- V's Wiki has now a page to download covers and banners to personalize the MGS2 game page on your Steam Library
- Do you want to contribute? Open a Github Issue and post me your artworks! I will gladly add them to the collection!
-
Improved several things that are not worth mentioning
