Overview
The current prototype ships with a curated Plugins group for plugin-added top-level menu items. Feedback from the Reddit launch raised a related idea: let users move lower-priority sidebar items under a toggle like "More".
This issue tracks a narrower version of that idea: one built-in, user-managed "More" group that users can move items into, without introducing arbitrary user-created groups yet.
Idea to explore
- Add one built-in "More" group as a lower-priority destination for sidebar items.
- Keep "More" hidden in normal mode while it is empty.
- Show "More" in customize mode as an available drop target, even if empty.
- If the user removes the last item from "More", hide it again after saving.
- Store "More" assignments per-user and per-site, matching the existing saved layout model.
- Reset layout should clear all "More" assignments.
- Do not support creating, renaming, deleting, or managing arbitrary custom groups in this first version.
Decisions still needed
- Should "More" accept only plugin-added items, or also core items such as Comments, Tools, or Settings?
- How should "More" interact with the curated Plugins group when plugin-added items can already live there?
Why this matters
Some users may have low-priority sidebar items that they still want available, just not always visible at top level. A built-in "More" group could solve this without introducing the risks of fully hiding menu items or the extra complexity of fully user-defined groups.
Notes
This is exploratory and not part of the first prototype scope. It is intentionally narrower than full user-defined groups. The first version could support one built-in "More" group only, with no group creation, renaming, deletion, or custom group management.
