The Basics
You'll mainly use the Go Racing page of the app.
First, on the left you'll select the race you want to take part in. The available races are regenerated each time you finish a race. In the app, cars are sorted into
- Classes: these are the same car classes you can see in AMS2. When setting up a race, you should set your opponents to be from this class.
- Disciplines: this concept doesn't exist in AMS2. Some examples are "Open Wheel", and "GT".
Appropriate tracks are selected for each car class to race on. (Though that list is manually curated; let us know if you see something weird!)
You progress through your simulated racing career by finishing races. Depending on your results, this earns you XP in various disciplines. Each discipline has a number of ranks, with the highest rank being A, going down through B, C, and so on. In each rank, you have access to a set of classes.
For example: you start out in rank F in the GT discipline. This gives you access to the GT5 and Copa Montana classes. As you finish races, you'll earn XP in GT (and to a lesser extent, other disciplines, depending on how similar they are). Once you're earned enough XP, you'll rank up to rank E, where you can then race in the Carrera Cup, or the Ginetta GT5 Supercup.
Your progress in the discipline for the selected race is shown on the main page.
You can also see your progress in all disciplines by clicking the Career button in the top bar. On that page you can also see the history of all your races. The Career page also contains a red button to reset your career progress, should you wish to start over.
The next section down tells you everything you need to go racing: the track, the track configuration, the race length, and time, and the AI strength you should be using.
- Race date is influenced by when the cars in your class were manufactured, and some randomness.
- Race time is controlled whether the cars in the race have headlights. Cars without headlights will always race during the day. Races for cars with headlights will have a completely random time-of-day for each race. Of course you're free to decide to race in the day anyway.
- We recommend using the "Real Weather" feature of AMS2 for the given date / time for immersion, but of course you're free to use whatever weather settings you prefer.
The app automatically adjusts the base AI Strength per discipline based on your results. For this reason it's recommended that you always use the number next to "Final AI Strength". Over time this will mean that races will converge on being fair but challenging. However, it's a fact of life that the same AI Strength number doesn't always map to similar AI skill in practice. You'll also have different levels of familiarity with various disciplines / classes, not to mention everyone using the app will have a different level of overall simracing experience.
To better support all these factors, while still adjusting the AI based on your results, you have a number of controls to tweak (increase or decrease) the AI Strength:
The settings you make here persist between races. The settings are, in order:
- Global: always applied
- Discipline: applied to races in the discipline of your selected race
- Car class: applied to races in the car class of your selected race
- Car: applied to races where you race the same car
Note that the car selection is below the AI Strength section, under the "How did it go?" header.
