The NC COVID Support Website

This tool creates a mobile-friendly map of community resources, featuring:

  • a simple Google sheet as the database
  • interactive map and list views of the data
  • room for custom notes and business details for each listing
  • support for multiple languages
  • a basic filter function

We built this tool to help our community find answers to these questions:

  • Where can I find a free meal?
  • Where can I find a drive-up pharmacy?
  • Where can I find a market with senior/vulnerable shopping hours?
  • Where can I find a pet store with a drive-up option?
  • Which businesses offer discounts for medical workers?

We hope that you'll explore this tool to explore and support your community with:

  • a map of food pantry locations
  • a map of minority-owned businesses
  • a map of historic trees in your community
  • .... and other community needs that you identify

A community resource map is only as good as the data behind the map, and the human relationships behind the data. We hope this tool gives you a solid starting point to start conversations within your community and to create partnerships that address community needs.

If you are reading this, chances are you are most interested in using and customizing this code in support of an existing data need. Does the map you have in mind require YOU to create and maintain the database behind the map? If so, we encourage you to reach out within your community, identify needs, and build partnerships that will support the project, keep the data management sustainable, and create a living product connected to community needs.

Become a Content Editor

We are always looking for people to join our content data team, as our site grows in popularity so does the number of listings that we need to manage. For more information visit out Content Editors page.

Replicating the project

We've built the code to make it easy for other communities to make their own map. Visit our Replicating the site page for more information.
