Looks like it might need go 1.21, try that or 1.22

Strange. Maybe something has changed upstream since the release was published. You could switch it to build with the prebuilt binary. See Akash or archway for an example

Does not work with either 1.19, 1.20, 1.21, 1.22 nor 1.23

Got it working. Seems like make install is broken with gitopia, it returns an error even though it does actually build successfully. Switching to make build works.

The binary version requires Debian 13 which isn't released yet, so better not to try and force that to work.
