Just checking, is passing -c conda-forge necessary in this setup? Even if it is not, it'd be anyway more clear passing it explicitly.

It is not necessary if you install either miniforge3 or mambaforge . However, as people may have installed either anaconda or miniconda and just install mamba in their base environment, explicitly indicating it is convenient as even such user will not have problems.
