The main principle that should be observed during translation is term consistency. For instance 'place' (in your local language) should be named 'place' everywhere, not point, POI or something else. Main Trekarta terms are:

  • place (map object created by user)
  • amenity (map object provided my map source)
  • map object (map object provided by third party, e.g. plugin)
  • track
  • route
  • data source (named collection of places, tracks and routes)
  • location
  • gauge (indicator of speed, track, elevation, etc)
  • navigate to... (move to destination directly): do not use words similar to route as it is reserved for future use, if you have difficulties with translation use some derivative from 'direct to...'
  • route to... (move to destination with guidance)

Important notes:

  • actions (text written on buttons) are almost always verbs
  • pay attention to placeholders (% symbols followed by letters) - their quantity, type and position should be left intact

Translation is managed with Transifex but also can be contributed through pull request.
