DevToys

A Swiss Army knife for developers.

Website

Introduction

DevToys helps with daily development tasks by offering a bundle of tiny tools designed to do quick, specific tiny tasks. No need to use many untrustworthy websites to simply decode a text or compress an image. With Smart Detection, the app intuitively selects the best tool for the data on your clipboard.

DevToys 2.0 comes with 30 default tools:

  • Converters: JSON <> YAML, Date, Number bases...
  • Encoders/Decoders: HTML, URLs, Base64, GZip, JWT, QR Code...
  • Formatters: JSON, SQL, XML...
  • Generators: Hash & Checksum, Lorem Ipsum, Password...
  • Graphics Tools: Color Blindness Simulator, PNG/JPEG Compressor...
  • Testers: JSONPath, RegEx, XML...
  • Text Utilities: Markdown Preview, Text Comparer, Analyzer & Utilities...

More tools are available through extensions, and you can develop your own.

Base64 files in this fork

Open Encoders / Decoders > Base64 File to convert files locally:

  • Drop or select a file to produce Base64, then copy the text or save it as a .txt file.
  • Paste Base64 and choose Decode and save file. Images, PDF and common text encodings are detected from the decoded bytes. The save dialog suggests a matching filename, such as decoded.png, decoded.jpg, or decoded.pdf. Unknown formats default to decoded.bin, which you can rename with the original extension.

The tool preserves the original bytes for any file type, including text encodings and image metadata. Changing a filename extension does not convert the underlying format. Files are limited to 20 MiB; pasted input accepts standard Base64, Base64url, omitted padding, ASCII whitespace, and Base64 data URLs. Invalid input is rejected before opening the save dialog. Base64 is encoding, not encryption.

Per-tool smart recommendations in this fork

Tools that accept detected data have a Smart recommendations switch below their title. It is enabled by default and saved separately for each tool. Turning it off excludes that tool from clipboard recommendations and suggestions for tool output; the tool remains available to open manually.

Changing the switch clears previous recommendation badges and pending automatic input. The next clipboard check reevaluates the same data with the updated settings, while output suggestions refresh immediately. When only one enabled tool matches, the existing automatic paste setting controls whether DevToys opens it and passes the data.
