No weather data for my location

Description

Hi, I can add my location to the app, and the app does find the correct location. However, it seems like the app isn't retrieving weather data for that location.

Since I added the location in English but it's displayed in German, it seems the app has found the correct location.
The same problem occurs when I add the location using the ZIP code.

Munich is a world-famous city; it will definitely be included in the weather database

I got the same Error, i'm located in Denmark, could the service be inaccessible outsite of the US ?

Thanks for the report — and @Xqzmoi thanks for the corroboration from Denmark.

This matches the pattern we tracked in #55: Nominatim (the geocoding service) is being blocked or rate-limited from several non-US regions, which makes location lookup silently return nothing. PR #56 (currently open, CI green) adds Photon (Komoot) as an automatic fallback — independent infrastructure, no API key — that should restore weather data for Munich/Bavaria/Germany without any user action.

Marking p1 and linking to #55. Once #56 ships in the next release, please give it another try and reopen if you're still seeing empty weather panels.

Within the next day or two you should be able to update to version 1.1.0 from the MS store or Winget. This newer version should be more robust and (hopefully) capable of finding locations and providing weather.

In any case, it also includes some other changes:

• No more default location. You can now use the context menu to add a location as a favorite. Doing that will show that location when you open Weather in Command Palette from then on. You can have multiple favorites.
• You can also use the context menu to pin any location to the dock.
• A new setting for the extension to choose whether the location or high/low temp shows in the subtitle of the dock band.
• Back-up APIs for location/weather searches
• Notifications when there are errors communicating with APIs so you'll know if an API is being blocked for you.
• MUCH better logging.*

*This one is dependent on the PowerToys 0.100 release that is due later this month (or by Build). A "bug" in Command Palette caused it to not log all the things extensions were asking to log. Of course, that makes it exceedingly difficult to troubleshoot for extension developers. But, being one of the developers of Command Palette, I got that fix committed and in the next release.

Once it's out and you've had a chance to try it, I'd love to hear how it's doing for you and thanks a ton for your patience and help in tracking this down!

Now it doesn't display anything when I try to search for or add a location.

I reinstalled your plugin through the MS Store, but it didn't change anything—except that I now have two weather extensions in the command palette, and I don't know why. Windows says it's only installed once, but there are two entries in the palette, and I can change the settings of both separately.

Could this be a command palette bug?

@nyhtz that definitely looks like a Command Palette bug. Could you create an issue on the PowerToys repo for that?

Might want to try restarting Command Palette as well to see if it corrects itself (just a guess and typical developer "turn it off and back on again" response. 😁)

This newer version includes a lot more/better logging, but CmdPal still doesn't record it. In the 0.100 release of PowerToys (coming in a few weeks) that will be corrected so we can really track down what's happening.

@Xqzmoi: The latest 0.100 release of Command Palette and the latest release of the Weather extension have better logging. If you've updated to the latest of both and are still experiencing problems, I'd love to get a copy of your logs to review and troubleshoot. Can you add a "Submit a Bug Report" zip file here?

Before you generate the bug report, please make sure to reproduce the issue you are having with the extension. This will ensure that the logs contain the relevant information to help me debug the issue.

Then, use the context menu for Weather in Command Palette and go to Submit a Bug Report. Then use the "Save Logs to Desktop" command to save the logs to your desktop. Finally, drag the zip file from your desktop onto the GitHub comment box in this issue.

This will let me review the logs of the extension to see what error is occurring so we can get it working for you. 👍🏼
