Indent lists when item text wraps

In lists, in my case <ul>, when item texts are too long for one line, they wrap around to the next line.
But the next line is not indented as you would expect from HTML rendering:

I think this could be fixed by using a ParagraphStyle with TextIndent "restline" parameter set:

This is a current limitation of the library.
Ideally the bullet should be drawn outside of the paragraph by using the new Bullet APIs from Compose 1.9, but they seem to only work on Android today.

If the first line of text which includes the bullet is indented differently from the second line, the indentation difference should match the size of the bullet and the following space exactly or it will look bad. The only reliable way to do that (that I'm aware of) is to measure the bullet text on screen using the exact text appearance that will be used for the Text composable, which is out of scope of this library. If you know a better solution, feel free to share it.

Until there is a reliable way to draw the bullet outside of the paragraph instead of inline, the library will have to keep displaying the bullet lists (and the numbered lists) like this.

The bullet Api is a nice hint, too sad that it's crashing on multiplatform - even when the API is available.
I agree that measuring is a problem, but the bullet chars and indentation size could be part of the HtmlStyle object.

I would argue that the bullet chars should definitely be configurable.
Waiting for the bullet api to be ported may be the best way forward in regard to this issue, however.

This was also the first issue I stumbled over when I tried to use your lib. This really needs to be fixed. Do I understand you correctly that this would work if using the new Bullet APIs wouldn't crash? Has this issue been reported to Jetbrains already?

I get the following error when I try the example from the Bullet APIs.

Thank you for reporting the issue to Jetbrains.

There are actually 2 different issues with Compose Desktop:

• Compose Desktop doesn't support using em units to indent paragraphs. This is the reason why this library uses a default indentation of 24 sp for blocks instead of 1 em. The Bullet APIs use a default indentation specified in ems. This is the cause of the crash you mentioned.
• Even when overriding the default indentation of bullets with a value in sp, the bullets are not visible in Compose Desktop, which is another bug.

Please note that using the bullet APIs would solve the indentation issue for unordered lists only but not for ordered lists, as there is no Compose API to display anything else than shapes (no numbers or text) in the margin of a paragraph.

@cbeyls Many thanks for the clarification. I hope they'll fix the second issue too once they have solved the first one. The problem with the ordered lists seems to be a shortcoming of the AnnotatedStrings which should also be reported as a feature request.

The issue https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/CMP-9453 is fixed now and should be available with compose 1.11.0-alpha02.

The first fix is now available in https://github.com/JetBrains/compose-multiplatform/releases/tag/v1.11.0-alpha02%2Bdev3475 but the second issue you mentioned has not yet been fixed. I added it to the youtrack issue.
