Description

Ruby 3.0 uses an openssl gem (2.2.x) that requires OpenSSL Version > 1.0.1 and < 3.0.0

Fedora, Ruby 3.0:

Fedora switched from an OpenSSL 1.x library to OpenSSL 3.x as of Fedora 36, and OpenSSL 1.x is dropped from the official package repositories as of Fedora 40.

  • Use Fedora 39 as a base
  • Uninstall OpenSSL (3.x) package
  • Install OpenSSL 1.x and OpenSSL 1.x develop packages

OpenSUSE, Ruby 3.0:

OpenSUSE switched from an OpenSSL 1.x library to OpenSSL 3.x as of OpenSUSE 15.6.

  • Install wget as a separate dependency.
  • Download the ruby .tar.xz package. (Using OpenSSL 3 bindings)
  • Remove openssl-3 package.
  • Install libopenssl-1_0_0-devel, libopenssl1_0_0, and openssl-1_0_0 as dependencies prior to the ruby build.
