This was lower friction to start. but i guess i don't really see an issue with your proposal. then i can just wrap this into the existing stateful tests |

This has a lot TODOs still in it. like using hypothesis and actually writing more tests. But opening to get feedback on teh general structure @paraseba @dcherian
and to see if it runs properly in CI
