Individual Team Order/Chaos Meters

Each team in DAOball is equipped with an Order/Chaos meter that fluctuates based on decisions made between matches. These decisions can either promote Order, enhancing league stability and cooperation, or Chaos, prioritizing individual team gains at the potential expense of league harmony.

  • Initial Meter Positioning: Teams start the season at varying points on the Order/Chaos spectrum, influenced by previous seasons' actions or initial team ethos.

In-Between Match Choices

Teams face complex decisions between matches, with each choice affecting their position on the Order/Chaos spectrum and potentially impacting their stats for upcoming matches. These choices are not binary but offer a spectrum of outcomes, ranging from large shifts towards Order or Chaos to more neutral stances, each with unique consequences and benefits.

Example Choice 1: Mysterious Artifact Discovery

  • Donate to the League Museum (Order): Boosts league-wide respect for your team, slightly increasing fan support but missing out on potential in-match advantages.
  • Study Secretly (Some Chaos): Offers a minor stat boost for the next match as your team gains insights
  • Use in Next Match (Large Chaos): Provides a significant stat boost in the next match, with a high risk of negative repercussions from the league for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Example Choice 2: Rival Team in Crisis

  • Offer Assistance (Order): Gain order, but lose some stats due to being tired after crisis
  • Exploit Situation (Large Chaos): Gain a significant advantage in your next match against the weakened team, but at the cost of severe damage to your reputation and potential league sanctions.
  • Stay Neutral (Little Chaos): Small change to Chaos, but gain nothing

Example Choice 3: Experimental Training Technique

  • Share with All Teams (Large Order): Significantly boosts league-wide innovation, leading to a small long-term stat increase for all teams, including yours, fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Adopt Cautiously (Little Order): Provides a moderate stat boost for your team in the next match with minimal risk, reflecting a balanced approach to innovation.
  • Aggressive Implementation (Chaos): Offers a large stat boost for the next match but carries the risk of injuries or long-term negative effects, reflecting a high-risk, high-reward strategy.

These nuanced choices ensure that teams must carefully consider the potential benefits and repercussions of their actions, both for their immediate competitive prospects and their standing within the broader DAOball community.

League-Wide Order/Chaos Balance

The cumulative state of the league's Order/Chaos balance is determined at season's end, affecting end-of-season rewards.

  • Net Order: If the league achieves a net Order state, teams on the Order side receive bonuses proportional to their Order alignment.
  • Net Chaos: In a net Chaos state, rewards are distributed randomly among Chaos-aligned teams, reflecting the unpredictable nature of Chaos.

End-of-Season Rewards

Rewards are given for competitive success and contributions to the league's Order/Chaos balance. They include NFTs for participation and rank, and influence over narrative decisions and changes for the next season.

  • Competitive Excellence: All teams, regardless of Order/Chaos alignment, are eligible for rewards based on season performance.
  • Order Contribution Rewards: In a net Order league, Order-aligned teams receive additional bonuses. The magnitude is based on their Order metric, incentivizing contributions to league stability.
  • Chaos Scenario: If the league is net Chaos, a random Chaos-aligned team receives rewards, highlighting the high-risk, high-reward nature of Chaos choices.

Narrative Influence

End-of-season rewards also grant teams the ability or voting power to influence narrative directions and game modifications for the subsequent season, further engaging the community in the evolving story of DAOball.

  • Narrative Choices: Teams can vote on significant plot developments, new game features, or rule adjustments, shaping the future of DAOball.
  • Community-Driven Development: This mechanism ensures that DAOball remains a vibrant, evolving game, directly influenced by its player community.
