LFS was a pain to set up and whilst it's working fine for us, the amount of support it's been creating isn't worth the effort.
This PR keeps the snapshots in the submodule but moves them to normal git. There is only 4MB of snapshots right now and even though this will grow with churn, as they're in a submodule we should be able to safely re-write history if it gets out of hand as we'd only be losing old snapshots.
